Trophy Eyes

It's really about time I post these guys.  Everything about them and their music is phenomenal, and they have a pet cactus that they keep at their merch table.  Anyway, Trophy Eyes are a melodic hardcore/pop punk band from Newcastle, Australia.  They play very aggressive melodic hardcore with pop punk elements.  Their music is very thematic, focusing on issues like death, sickness, growing old, relationships with family and friends, and love lost.  They're an all-around phenomenal band that I definitely recommend.  My favorite releases are Mend, Move On and their 2013 demo.

TANKINI

Here's another submission from Juan.  TANKINI are a pop punk band whose lyrics focus a lot on LGBT issues.  I know literally nothing about this band aside from the fact that they're from Olympia, Washinton.  Juan has reached out to the band multiple times with no response, so they may not even be active anymore. One of the most mysterious bands I've ever heard of.

Rilo Kiley

Rilo Kiley is a four piece folk band (more indie pop in their later stuff) formed in 1997 and based in Los Angeles.  Their music has been used in several TV show promotions, the most notable of which are Orange is the New Black and Weeds.  Their first EP, Initial Friend EP, was pressed three times, and all pressings are the same aside from one different track on each one.  The version I have is a compilation of all songs from the pressings.  One song from this EP, "The Frug," was featured in the soundtrack to the movie Desert Blue, and the director of the movie went on to direct the music video for the song., which is pretty neat.  This band is one of the few female-fronted bands I enjoy.  For some reason I usually just don't go for female vocalists.  In 2001, they released their first full-length, Takeoffs and Landings, through Barsuk Records.  In 2002, they released their most popular album, The Execution of All Things, with Saddle Creek Records.  They released a third full-length, More Adventurous, through Warner Brothers in 2004.  This album is distinctly more poppy, with WB probably to blame. They released another album, Under the Blacklight, in 2007, again with WB, which is without a doubt their most pop-influenced album.  It's still pretty good music, but not their best.  They went on hiatus from 2010-2013, when the band broke up after releasing their best of album, Rkives, which is a bunch of demos, remixed and unreleased songs.
